What co-made means

Created

A work is co-made when AI did much of the labor and people made the choices that matter.

Soon almost everything will be AI assisted. So "made by AI" and "made by a person" stop being useful labels. Almost nothing will be purely one or the other.

Co-made is a better label. It does not ask what percent of the words came from a machine. It asks whether people steered the work with their own taste, judgment and experience.

Three questions show the difference:

  1. Did people make the choices that gave this work its character?
  2. Did they consider real alternatives at those moments?
  3. Can they explain why the work is this way and not another way?

If the answers are yes, the work is co-made, and you can be proud of it. It does not matter how much the AI wrote.

If the answers are no, the work is slop, even if a person pressed every button.

This is a claim about pride and meaning. It is not a claim about copyright. The law asks narrower questions, and in the United States, selecting among AI outputs does not by itself make you the author.
